In a world that often values conformity over conviction, I believe that living boldly as a believer is not just a choice, but a calling. It's an act of faith that has the power to transform not only our own lives, but the lives of those around us.
Welcome to The Christian Creative, where we can explore what it means to be creative, passionate people pursuing faith and community!
A little background...
These days, I find myself with one foot in two often contradictory worlds: the church and the entertainment industry. When I started pursuing professional acting a few years ago, I was met with intense feedback about my choices. Some folks in church thought I was selling my soul, and my thespian friends were often at a loss for a reaction when I mentioned I work at church. The way I see it: God – the greatest storyteller of all – has commissioned us to reach the lost. The more I heard people express their fear of the "darkness of Hollywood," the more I realized we Christians should be running toward it with the Gospel.
Knowing my identity is in Christ alone, I try not to let my setting influence the missional approach we're called to live with. And I don't want a generalized perception to determine the way I see people. The reality is, there are hurt and deceived people walking into church on Sunday mornings; there are secure, God-fearing prayer warriors on movie sets.
All I can do is make sure my words and actions reflect my relationship with Jesus, maintain my integrity and build up God's name above all others.
As a Christian woman who sometimes works in the movies, I'm learning firsthand the unique challenges and opportunities that come with pursuing a career in this industry. It can be challenging for Christians in any industry to navigate their careers while staying true to their values and beliefs. But I have a passion for inspiring and encouraging others to embrace their faith while pursuing their dreams fearlessly.
This brings me to how I'll be using this blog.
Sometimes, I'll be talking directly to other actors and entertainment industry workers. I want to encourage them (and myself) to make intentional choices about the projects we take on, the roles we accept, and the messages we convey through our work. By staying true to our faith and convictions, we will not only set ourselves apart in a competitive industry, but also serve as a powerful testament to the transformative power of the Gospel.
Other times, I want to explore media generally, as a consumer (and let's face it, we're all consuming plenty of it). I LOVE digging into the nuances of films and television shows, even if I'm just offering a review. I might even give recommendations and lists of my favorites.
Third, I want to share what I've learned as a single, Christian woman with my younger sisters in Christ. Whatever "stage" in life you're in, life is happening right now and we ought to live to the fullest! CARPE DIEM!
Finally, in the spirit of living full, intentional lives, I look forward to writing about travel. I have been compiling itineraries, experiences, photos and tips from my travels over the years, and I can't wait to share them with you! (In the meantime, check out some photography from my travels at carlywheelerphotography.com).
Living boldly as believers should encourage us to embrace risks, dream big and seize opportunities that come our way. It means stepping out of our comfort zones, challenging societal norms, and using platforms to encourage others. Let's take big steps together, get inspired and refuse to be limited!
